Go Out In The Field With a Reliable Shotgun That Won't Break The Bank

Smart shoppers are always looking for a good deal, and it’s been a few years since we’ve seen gun prices at the low points that we’re seeing right now. This means that savvy buyers can snap up a great gun at an even better price.

Here’s our list of the best over/under shotguns that you can buy right now for under $1,000.

Editor's Note: Please bear in mind that the prices of these shotguns are likely to change.

Mossberg Gold Reserve - $875

Mossberg Gold Reserve

Sub-gauge shotguns have become wildly popular in recent years, and the Mossberg Gold Reserve in 20 gauge is a perfect example. At $875, it’s the perfect blend of precision and price.

The Mossberg Gold Reserve is fitted with 30” barrels, boasts an engraved polished silver receiver, and is all mounted in a nice piece of black walnut. The inclusion of five removable choke tubes makes it easy for shooters to tailor the gun to their specific needs.

CZ Drake - $776

CZ Drake, over/under shotguns under $1000

The CZ Drake is the most visually distinct shotgun on this list. With a muted OD Green Cerakote finish and a walnut stock, the Drake is both beautiful and utilitarian. The finish makes it perfect for hard use in the field and nearly impervious to inclement weather. The gun is equipped with sling swivels, 28” barrels, and features rare earth magnets to keep your shells in the chambers even if the gun is turned upside down. At $776, the CZ Drake is a lot of gun for the money.

Stoeger Condor Field - $308

Stoeger Condor Field, over/under shotguns under $1000

At just $308, the Stoeger Condor Field is the least expensive over/under shotgun on this list. Make no mistake, though: inexpensive doesn’t mean cheap. The Condor Field is a great option if you’re just looking to get into the over/under world and don’t want to spend a ton of money until you know the format is right for you.

The Condor Field has 28” barrels with a ventilated rib and removable chokes, black synthetic furniture, and a blued finish.

Weatherby Orion I - $851

Weatherby Orion I, over/under shotguns under $1000

The Weatherby Orion I is a traditional boxlock over/under shotgun priced at just $851. Available with 26” or 28” chrome-lined barrels, shooters can switch between three different choke tubes for the right pattern, no matter what they’re doing. A walnut stock with a Prince of Wales grip, brass front sight bead, and automatic ejectors round out this head-turning shotgun.

Savage 555 Sporting Compact - $883

Savage 555 Sporting Compact, over/under shotguns under $1000

As was mentioned previously, sub-gauge guns are hot, and they don't get any smaller than .410 bore. The Savage 555 Sporting Compact shotgun has ported 26” barrels and a lightweight aluminum receiver that is scaled for the gauge to keep weight down, but also has a steel insert to reinforce the breech.

With five removable chokes, an adjustable Turkish walnut stock, and a fiber optic front sight, the 555 Sporting Compact is a great gun for someone looking for a new challenge on the sporting clays course. Priced at $883, there’s plenty of money left over for multiple rounds of clays.

There’s never been a better time to buy your first over/under shotgun or just add another one to your safe at a great price. Act now and snag one of these deals before too many people catch on and prices start to go back up!
