Score Some Heat From HK, SIG SAUER, Ruger, Taurus, Walther, Langdon Tactical/Beretta & Springfield Armory

Here's a hot drop of cool summertime carry/personal defense guns from our May-June 2025 issue. You'll get 'em while they're hot if you know what's good for you.

SIG SAUER P938 Titanium Rainbow

SIG SAUER P938 Titanium Rainbow

No, this gun does not come with a stuffed unicorn, but it's still pretty slick. Stylish, yet discreet hammer-fired carry defines the reintroduction of SIG SAUER’s P938. Designed in the image of the classic 1911, the lightweight (18.6 ounces), hard-coat anodized alloy-framed 9mm pistol has a crisp trigger pull when compared to double-action semi-autos. The 7+1 capacity SAO gun features a 3-inch barrel, Hogue G10 grip panels, and SIGLITE night sights, but what really stands out is the rainbow-titanium-coated slide that is rounded and beveled for a snag-free draw. MSRP is $879. (sigsauer.com)

Ruger RXM (Magpul)

Ruger RXM (Magpul)

What can be better than two all-American brands like Ruger and Magpul teaming up on a Gen3 G19 clone? Nothing. The heart (and serialized part) of the modular Ruger pistol is its Fire Control Insert (FCI), which is similar to the trigger chassis in a SIG P320. Marry the FCI to Magpul’s Enhanced Handgun Grip (EHG), put a street price of less than $500, and you’ve got one sweet EDC specimen. If you want to change out the stock stealth gray EHG Magpul frame, you’re in luck. Magpul has FDE, ODG, and black models on the horizon. (ruger.com); (magpul.com)

Walther PP

Walther PP

The original Walther PP, improved with trigger, ergonomics, and quality (TEQ), is back and ready to report for EDC duty. The PP is the gun that started it all back in 1929 when Carl Walther introduced it as the Polizeipistole intended for use by European PDs in the 1930s. Now, for the first time in a long time, you can get a PP pistol in the U.S. that’s 100% made by Walther at its Arkansas facility. Available in .380 or .32 ACP, stainless or black finishes, the PP gun specs out with a 3.9-inch barrel, 7+1 capacity, OA length of 6.9 inches, and an empty weight of 24 ounces. MSRP is $1,149. Walther WPK

For those who really dig combos, Walther’s got the goods with its Watch, Pistol, Knife kit. What’s in the kit, you ask? For the firepower part of this special edition, customers get a custom serial number range (WPK001-WPK100), Walther PDP 4-inch Compact Steel Frame semi-automatic. To keep time like a boss, a custom Resco Manus Chronograph Watch is included. The kit enters the edge of perfection with a 4-inch-bladed AmTac Minuteman II fixed fighter. The WPK, with an MSRP of $4,499, also comes with custom cufflinks and a money clip. It’s time to get classy. (waltherarms.com)

Taurus GX2

Taurus GX2

Just because its price point is $310 doesn’t at all mean that the new Taurus GX2 is skimping on quality and shootability. The 13+1 capacity GX2 offers a dependable, easy-to-use option as an EDC. Built with a corrosion-resistant finish (matte black or stainless) and advanced safety features, this affordable striker-fired 9mm sports a 3.38-inch barrel, an OA length of 6.19 inches, and an empty weight of 20.8 ounces. Want to kick your summer carry into colorful high gear? The GX2 is now available in brown/black, cyan/black, purple/black, tan/black, and more! (taurususa.com)

HK VP9A1 K

Heckler & Koch’s best-selling VP9 series just got a major facelift with the addition of the VP9A1 K (compact). It features a 4.09-inch barrel with an overall length of 7.32 inches and a new shorter frame, giving the K a height of only 5.12 inches. Other upgrades include four backstrap modules that change the length of pull between the web of the hand and the trigger. Three different-sized grip panels and backstraps now provide 45 optional grip configurations. The optics-ready VP9A1 K model sports a 15+1 capacity (other options available), an overall weight of 22.57 ounces, and an MSRP of $979. (hk-usa.com)

In collaboration with Langdon Tactical’s Ernest Langdon, the Beretta PX4 Compact Carry was developed with custom features to offer a lightweight hammer-fired EDC gun. The PX4 Compact Carry 2 now comes standard from Beretta with a spurless hammer and new irons featuring a blacked-out rear notch and an orange-dot front post. Springfield Armory Kuna

Springfield Armory Kuna

No, you’re not EDC’ing the 9mm PCC from Springfield, but it’s just too awesome to leave out of this rundown. Plus, the new 9mm Kuna might just be the perfect little backpack partner or around-the-homestead/truck gun. The Kuna, or European pine marten as it is known in Croatia, sports an ultra-simple and reliable roller-delayed operating system that slashes recoil and muzzle flip for great control. The threaded 6-inch-barreled Kuna features fully ambidextrous controls, an optional Strike Industries FSA brace, a Picatinny rail, and a non-reciprocating charging handle. OA length is 15.5 inches, and weight is four pounds, 10 ounces empty. MSRP is $999. (springfield-armory.com)
