New Taurus Expedition Rifle, Deputy Series Single-Action Revolver, Executive Grade 605
Taurus has built its reputation of offering extremely solid, well-designed, and well-built practical handguns at an affordable price coupled with impeccable customer service. They made their first revolver over 80 years ago and they were introduced to the U.S. market in 1968. They are a company that has slowly and steadily grown as it embraced new technology and continually worked to improve its line of firearms. They completed their move of their manufacturing and business operation to Miami, Florida, in 2019 to a new 200,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility which has given them the ability to expand and refine their engineering and production to meet the high expectations of today’s market.
Not surprisingly, Taurus had a wide range of new products for SHOT Show 2024.
Taurus Bolt-Action Expedition Rifle
Perhaps the most unexpected was the Taurus Expedition, their first-ever bolt gun. Initially being offered in .308, but 6.5 Creedmoor and other calibers are on the near horizon. The Expedition has a threaded, cold hammer forged, 18-inch barrel with 1 in 10 twist capable of sum MOA accuracy. The barrel attaches with a barrel nut that can be removed with an AR-15 barrel wrench. The Taurus Expedition has a Remington 700 footprint action so it will take any aftermarket trigger that fits a 700 although it comes with an adjustable trigger out of the box. It uses readily available AICS pattern magazines and comes with one five-round magazine. The three-lug bolt has a 60-degree throw and the barrel and action have a DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating for weather and wear resistance.
The stock is Taurus’ own with such features as a QD sling attachment and M-Lok slots on the bottom so an ARCA rail can be attached. They even flattened out the sides in front of the chamber so it clamps perfectly into a Hog Saddle or similar mount. MSRP is $985 but you can expect to find this in stores (soon) for near the $750 mark.

Taurus Deputy Series Single-Action Revolvers
Cowboy guns seemed to be the theme of this year’s SHOT Show and Taurus certainly would never be left out of that. They once again are offering Single Action revolvers in .357 and .45 Colt in their new Deputy series. They come in two barrel lengths: 4.75- and 5.5-inch. These guns look exactly like the historic Colt models but stand out with a stunning polished black oxide finish. Internally, Taurus added a transfer bar safety which means unlike the original style SAA, these can be carried safely with six rounds loaded without fear of an accidental discharge from being dropped. MSRP is $607.

Taurus 605 Executive Grade .357 Magnum
While the Deputy revolvers may be classics, Taurus wanted to step it up with their 605 Executive Grade .357. For those unfamiliar with the 605, it is a 5-shot .357 staple in the Taurus line. Designed as a carry gun, it comes in a variety of configurations including 2- or 3-inch barrel lengths, different finishes, grips styles, optics ready, and even polymer framed.
Taurus released the Executive Grade as their pinnacle 605, similar to what you would expect if you sent the gun to a custom shop. Each revolver is handmade by one gunsmith. The trigger is hand-tuned. The oversized wood grips are presentation-grade. The polished, stainless-steel finish looks beautiful while the fiber optic front sight makes this gun practical for fast target acquisition. This is a revolver that was made for defensive carry but looks and performs so well that you will want everyone to see it. With an MSRP of $758, it is their most expensive model 605, however, considering it is a handmade, performance revolver, it is a steal.

Taurus 327 Defender T.O.R.O.
On the other end of the self-defense spectrum, the new Taurus 327 Defender T.O.R.O. (Taurus Optic Ready Option) is all about the ultimate in practicality and function. Chambered in .327 Federal Magnum, this six-shot revolver comes in matte black, has a 3-inch barrel, a pinned, Ameriglo front night sight, and rubber grips to absorb recoil. The hammer is bobbed so it won’t snag on clothing when drawn from concealed carry.
Because it is chambered in .327, it can also shoot .32 H&R Magnum. .32 S&W Long, and .32 S&W Short. As the T.O.R.O. name designates, it is optics-ready and set up to take the Shield RMSc or Holosun K footprint. The 327 Defender T.O.R.O. was designed with practical performance in real-world conditions, trumping all other features.
